Enhanced mobility this autumn and winter with more taxis
Palma's urban landscape is set to witness a transformation this autumn and winter, with over 200 additional taxi cars set to hit the streets. The Palma City Council, in a landmark agreement with the taxi sector, has laid the groundwork for a historic change in regulating taxi services during the upcoming months. The aim? To cater to the heightened demand for reliable transportation.
A substantial increase from 500 to 720 cars
In an unprecedented move, the City Council and taxi sector have collaborated to unanimously approve a groundbreaking agreement. This pact represents a significant shift, as it marks the first time in Palma's history that such a broad consensus has been reached.
Under the terms of this agreement, the number of available taxi cars per day will undergo a substantial increase from 500 to 720 between November 2023 and February 2024. This expansion in taxi services is a proactive measure designed to address the anticipated surge in demand during the colder seasons, additionally to the expected tourism boom during this year's winter season.
Unlimited service during festive periods
One notable feature of this arrangement is the introduction of unlimited taxi services during specific festive periods. Notably, on December 24th, starting from 8:00 PM, through to the following morning at 8:00 AM (December 25th), and then again from 8:00 PM on December 31st to 8:00 AM on January 1, 2024, taxi services will be available without restrictions.
An important historic agreement
Toni Deudero, the City Councillor for Mobility and Industrial Areas, emphasises the paramount importance of this historic agreement. The primary objective is to enhance the quality of taxi services in Palma and ensure that residents and travellers can readily access reliable transportation options during autumn and winter. This collaborative effort is undoubtedly a game-changer, promising a more accessible and convenient taxi service for the public, reinforcing Palma's commitment to evolving with the changing needs of its community.
