Endless Influx: Mallorca's tourist flow scales a new peak

The number of vacationers touching Mallorca’s sunny shores has reached new heights, a remarkable phenomenon capturing attention. This year, from January to September alone, 10.7 million travelers graced the beautiful Balearic island. According to the National Statistics Institute (INE), this amounts to a substantial increment of 8.9 percent compared to the previous year. The other Balearic islands also enjoyed similar patronage – Ibiza and Formentera drew in 3.3 million people over the same period, and Menorca 1.5 million.

The Ham Street – A magnet for tourists

The Ham Street's unceasing appeal to party tourists is similarly noteworthy. The total tally of vacationers flocking to the island group stood at a remarkable 15.6 million, 12.5 million of whom travelled from abroad. Also striking is the fact that 60 percent of visitors to the Balearics were Germans and Brits.

Rising Popularity Amid Skyrocketing Prices

Despite a ten percent hike in hotel and flight prices during the season, the number of German holidaymakers increased by 5.9 percent compared to the previous year. These figures are impressive, testifying to the unmatched allure of the Germans’ favorite island even amidst rising costs.

Expenditure Extravagance: Holidaymakers set the economic wheels in motion

And the vacationers are not shy about splurging on the islands. During their stay on the four islands, they expended approximately 17.5 billion euros, about 14.6 percent more than in 2022. On average, foreign tourists stayed 6.3 days (a remarkable figure considering the full-day party-goers at Ballermann) and generously spent 1,271 euros.

Balearics allure tourists – Spain's second most popular destination

Following Catalonia, with the tourist hot spot Barcelona, the Balearics are the second most popular tourist destination in Spain. Until September, a total of 66.5 million foreign tourists visited Spain; their collective spending amounted to 84.6 billion euros. Even though 2023 is nearing its end, 2024 is already on the horizon, and travel operator TUI advises to secure an early booking discount now. They do not recommend relying on "last minute" deals.
