Nit de l'Art Takes Palma by Storm
If you're an art enthusiast or simply someone who appreciates the beauty of creativity, mark your calendars for the most anticipated "night of art" in Palma de Mallorca - Nit de l'Art! This vibrant celebration of contemporary art is not just any ordinary event; it's a cultural extravaganza that draws tens of thousands of people in a single evening. And as if that weren't enough, the event has now blossomed into a week-long art spectacle that promises to enchant you from September 23rd to September 30th.
Art Palma Contemporani: The Curators of Creativity
Organized by the illustrious Galeristenverband Art Palma Contemporani, Nit de l'Art serves as the grand opening of the new artistic season. Despite the unfortunate loss of Juan Antonio Horrach Moyà in October 2022 and the closure of his two galleries, the organization has seen growth with the addition of Fermay and La Bibi galleries. They join the ranks of established art venues such as Aba Art Lab, Baró, CCA Andratx, Galeria Fran Reus, Kewenig Palma, L21 Gallery, Maior Pollença, Galeria Pelaires, Pep Llabrés Art Contemporani, and Galería Xavier Fiol. In a brilliant expansion, the event now boasts a total of 14 participating art establishments, meaning more exhibitions for art enthusiasts to explore.
Local Talent Shines Bright
Mallorca's exceptional artists proudly showcase their individual exhibitions. Teresa Matas graces the Aba Art Lab, Susy Gómez takes center stage at Baró, Laia Ventayol captivates at Galería Maior, and Lin Utzon's "Cosmic Dance" dazzles at CCA Andratx in the Hotel Sant Francesc. The young Mallorquin artist, Josep Santamaria, astonishes with solo exhibitions at both Xavier Fiol and Pep Llabrés Art Contemporani.
A Global Art Journey
Beyond the local talent, Nit de l'Art offers a diverse array of exhibitions from international artists. Discover the mesmerizing work of Inês Zenha at Pelaires, the captivating artistry of Marian Garrido at Galeria Fran Reus, the innovative pieces by Andi Fischer at Kewenig Palma, and the thought-provoking creations of Ákos Ezer at Galerie L21. For a taste of collective artistry, don't miss the group exhibitions at La Bibi and Fermay galleries. In a special treat, the three out-of-town galleries - CCA Andratx, La Bibi in Establiments, and Galerie Maior in Pollença - will also present their art at the Misericòrdia, the cultural center of the Island Council, during Nit de l'Art.
Guided Art Adventures
For those eager to delve deeper into the world of art, Nit de l'Art offers twelve free guided tours available until the end of October under the banner "Art Palma Gallery Walks." These tours are conducted in Spanish, Catalan, and English, giving everyone the chance to connect with the art on a personal level. Additionally, on September 23rd, a bus will whisk art enthusiasts away to the Galerie La Bibi and CCA Andratx, with another excursion on September 24th heading to Galeria Maior in Pollença. This journey also includes visits to the Coster sculpture park and the Pollença Museum, departing at 10:30 am from Hotel Jaime III (Paseo Mallorca 14B). Reservations can be made on artpalmacontemporani.com.
Art for Thought
The Round Table with art experts is now a staple of Nit de l'Art. Scheduled for September 22nd at 6:00 pm at Caixa Forum, it will explore "Tomorrow's Patronage." The panel includes Nimfa Bisbe, Head of the "la Caixa" art collection, Antònia M. Perelló, Curator and Collection Manager at the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona, collectors and art supporters Lorena Pérez-Jácome and Javier Lumbreras, and Chus Martínez, Head of the Institute Art Gender Nature at the University of Design and Art Basel FHNW. Admission is free, but registration is required on the official Caixaforum.
Art Beyond Boundaries
Nit de l'Art extends its artistic embrace to various private and public institutions and initiatives, transforming it into a multifaceted celebration. The festivities have already commenced, stretching from last Friday to Saturday, even reaching the community of Calvià. The Hotel de Mar Gran Meliá in Illetes, in collaboration with the Melià hotel chain and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid, presented "Art Vivant. En el sueño" (Living Art. In a Dream). This mesmerizing "Tableau Vivant" brought the painting "The Dream" by Franz Marc to life through the subtle artistry of actors, seamlessly merging the historical reality of the artist with his dreams and ideas.
Beyond the Official Program
Besides the official program, you'll find a myriad of additional offerings. Explore galleries not affiliated with the Galeristenverband, discover hidden gems in shops and studios, or stumble upon captivating pop-up exhibitions throughout the city. After all, it's all part of the magic of Nit de l'Art.
With its expansive program and diverse art offerings, Nit de l'Art is a celebration that unites the community in the name of creativity and culture. Whether you're an art aficionado or a casual admirer, this event promises an unforgettable night filled with inspiration, imagination, and a deep appreciation for the world of contemporary art. So, join us in Palma de Mallorca on Saturday, September 23rd, from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm, as we immerse ourselves in a world where art knows no bounds.
